About the Amazon Rainforest The Amazon Region is the largest tropical jungle in the world
responsible for 50% of the renovated oxygen on earth and its hydrographic basin,
containing over 1,000 rivers and lakes, embraces no less than 1/5 of the fresh
water reserves. Nature’s fabulous show is filled with the most exuberant flora
and This extensive region uses its rivers as the easiest and most practical form of communication. In all, there are more than 1,000 rivers navigable the year round with a total extension of 19,000 km. Rivers that create in the immense Amazon basin a truly dazzling water color: the crystalline waters of the Xingu and Tocantis River; the yellowish waters of the Solimoes and the Amazon itself, as well as the dark waters of the Negro River, which bathes Manaus, the city that was born and grew in the middle of the wilderness. But it is the Amazon River, without doubt, the most important and imposing of all, is the largest in the world in terms of volume of water and the second largest in length (6,557 km), after the Nile with its 6,577 km. Its source is the Andes Mountains and it flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon Region is not for everyone.
