THE M/V AMAZON JOURNEY

The Amazon Journey : El Arca
El Arca, which will depart out of Iquitos into the Pacaya Samaria National Reserve, with Friday and Monday departures navigating the Marañon and Ucayali rivers, respectively.

The Amazon Journey (aka EL ARCA) is being completely remodeled and will be fully operational in October 2008, with a maximum capacity of 22 passengers. Availability will be provided exclusively through Latin Trails.


DESCRIPTION
“El Arca” is made of iron and its foundations of wood and iron. This ship represents what the typical Amazon boat is, since its design was inspired by the rubber period in Iquitos. It was rebuilt in 1988 and reshaped for more comfort in 2001.
The bar is attending 24 hours with varied liquors and beer you will be able to taste drinks and cocktails typical of Peru. On the third deck the M/V "El Arca" has an open deck (viewpoint), and a hall of hammocks.There you will be able to rest and enjoy the Amazonian breeze. In the prow the boat has a viewing point where you will enjoy the Amazonian sunrise and sunset.

PACAYA SAMIRIA RIVER CRUISE - (Marañon River)
4 Day / 3 night Cruise – Friday through Monday

Day 01, Friday:
Evening arrival to Iquitos, where our Guide will take you to the Amazon Journey. Guests will be treated to a welcome toast, and will be assigned to their cabins. Evening briefing in regards to safety and things to come during the expedition. Optional night excursion if desired. (D)

Day 02, Saturday:
Breakfast onboard; Afterwards, a bird watching expedition on a boat excursion which will take us the confluence of the Ucayali & Marañón Rivers, which we will observe from a10 meter high vantage point, to observe how these two rivers form into the Amazon River. Lunch onboard. After a break, guests will be invited to a two hour hike in search of flora. In the evening, we will arrive at the meeting of the Yanayacu River with the Marañon River, at the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. Dinner on board, followed by a nocturnal boat expedition. (B,L,D)

Day 03,Sunday:
Breakfast onboard. Passengers will have the opportunity to choose from two options. First of which, they can embark on a boat expedition through the Yanayacu Pucate River, followed by a Jungle hike through Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Those traveling on this portion of the trip will enjoy a picnic, before heading back to the Amazon Journey.
For passengers who wish to skip this option, can visit a riverside community, known as 20 de Enero. You will come back onboard for Lunch. Afterwards we will go in search of Grey and pink dolphins. Swimming is optional for those who want go swimming with the dolphins.
After everyone arrives back onboard, we will have a night excursion, followed by dinner. (B,L,D)

Day 04, Monday:
Occasional fishing will be one of the highlights today, prior to breakfast. We will navigate down stream towards Nauta. Lunch will be provided onboard, and there will be some free time to prepare your luggage for those who will be disembarking at this point. Passengers disembarking at this point will be transferred to the airport or to their hotel. (B,L)


Ucayali river, 3 nights / Cruise B
PACAYA SAMIRIA RIVER CRUISE - (Ucayali River)
4 Day / 3 night Cruise – Monday through Thursday

Day 01, Monday:
New coming passengers will be transferred from Iquitos to Nauta, and be greeted with a welcome toast, before their cabin assignments, and briefing in regards to the cruise. We will arrive at the confluence of the Ucayali & Marañón Rivers, where these two rivers form into the Amazon River. Flora observation of the Victoria Regias, the largest of water lilies in Lake Yucuruchi. Dinner onboard and nocturnal boat excursion in search of Caimans and other animals. (D)

Day 02, Tuesday:
Inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve we will enter La Quebrada del Dorado. Boat trip for bird watching and observation of Grey and Pink dolphins. Breakfast, followed by a Jungle hike inside the Reserve.
Lunch onboard the Amazon Journey, prior to a visit to a riverside Amazonic Community, to get to know their costumes and culture.
Nocturnal night excursion in search of animals, ending the day with dinner onboard. (B,L,D)

Day 03, Wednesday:
Breakfast and occasional fishing in the Yarapa River, where our guests can go for a swim.
Lunch before we visit Jalda Village, which will give our guests the opportunity to exchange handcrafts.
Dinner and a nocturnal boat excursion. (B,L,D)

Day 04, Thursday:
Bird watching in the Tahuayo Reserve. Breakfast onboard, while we will navigate downstream towards Iquitos. Passengers will have time to arrange their luggage, and enjoy a final lunch prior to leaving the Amazon Journey. Our Guides will take you to the airport or to their hotel. (B ,L)

PACAYA SAMIRIA RIVER CRUISE

7 Day / 6 night Cruise – Friday through Thursday
